Samira Kazemi 2024

Samira KazemiLes régistraires | Registrars – ISO 27001, CMMC, & AI

Hello everyone, here’s a review of this very interesting evening of May 29, 2024 organized by Sam Weissfelner at the Novotel Hotel, Montreal Airport. Our speakers were Maryana GLAVAN of ABS Global and Tim RYAN, V-P Sales at SGS North America.

Raymond DyerPar Raymond E. Dyer (Ray), Vice-président Section Montréal, ASQ Senior, CMQ/OE, & CQA

Maryana GLAVAN & Tim RYAN

On May 29th, we had an awesome “Night of Registrars” event with presenters Maryana GLAVAN of ABS Canada and Tim RYAN from SGS North America. It was an in-person event, which is nice to go to from time to time so as to meet fellow Quality practitioners in person, enjoy good food and camaraderie, and especially learn.

Maryana presented on Cyber Security (CMMC – Cyber Security Model Certification) and the fact that it will be a growing concern for companies involved in the supply chain of organizations supplying US government agencies. Organizations will be challenged to demonstrate their cyber security controls and practices. Those interested in Canada’s involvement should search on CP-CSC, e.g. https://www.ccc.ca/en/announcements/government-of-canada-program-for-cyber-security-certification/ and also: https://www.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca/esc-src/pccc-cpcsc-eng.html.

Tim presented on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Governance and the ISO/IEC 42001 Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) standard that is taking effect. It was interesting to see that this standard was of value to both organizations using AI internally for their processes as for those integrating it as part of the solutions offering. SGS have taken a leadership role in recognizing organizations with significant AIMSs.

In both cases, Maryana and Tim suggested Quality professionals with a solid ISO 27001 background could leverage this experience to enter the opening market of opportunities that these regulations/standards will bring. I’m getting a little old for this, but I’ve already suggested a close consultant that he explore this. This is the kind of value you get had you been there.

Thank you Sam Weissfelner for inviting these excellent speakers!

To those who missed this event, I hope to see and connect with you next time, Samira.

Basically, our Business Plan lists what steps the section will be taking to achieve specific goals. It is broken down into actionable steps that can be easily followed and tracked so as to clarify what resources will be required to reach it within a specific timeline. As for the 2024 Business Plan Objectives, we are proud to report that for the 27 objectives that we defined, so far 24 are 90% completed, 22 at 80% and 19 at 70%. What a Q1 report, indeed!

Livrer de la valeur à nos membres
Delivering Value to Our Members

Veronica Marquez Par Veronica B. Marquez, M.Sc., ASQ Senior Member, CSSBB  (English text follows)

  • Mettre l’accent sur la valeur apportée à nos membres ;
  • Continuer d’amplifier nos efforts de sensibilisation ;

Last January, I wrote about our goals for 2024. Remember?

I shared three of them with you:

  • Focus on the value we bring to our members;
  • Continue to amplify our awareness-raising efforts;
  • Review and improve our communication tools and techniques.

I invite you to send me your event ideas for fall 2024, and share your comments and suggestions that could help us deliver a rewarding member experience that lives up to your expectations.

In parallel with these objectives, we also tested a tool to streamline our event registration process. This test proved not to meet our criteria, so we decided to return to Eventbrite to share our events and manage registrations. We will, of course, continue to share everything on our various pages ASQ Montreal, MyASQ and LinkedIn .

I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events on May 29 and June 12.

Cesar Camargo

In response to the valuable feedback and suggestions from our participants in previous events, last month the ASQ Montreal section had the opportunity to offer two magnificent conferences: “Evolution of ISO 10012 Standard“, held on April 3, and “Artificial Intelligence: Replacing Humans?“, held on April 24.

Discussing the ISO 10012 standard: Measurement management systems was a success in terms of the importance of this topic in the business world. Participants in this event rated their overall satisfaction at 93%. The theme and proposed approach received a positive perception of 100%. The presenter was rated with 95% satisfaction, and regarding exchange, participants expressed 80% satisfaction.

Regarding the second conference of the month, the essential topic of Artificial Intelligence and its impact was presented assertively and was very well received by the participants. An overall satisfaction of 93% was accompanied by a very good rating of 95% for the theme, 93% satisfaction for the presenter and the approach, and an 89% positive perception towards the exchange.

Participants in these two conferences expressed interest in continuing discussions about artificial intelligence and its implementation methodologies in the industry. There was also interest in topics such as medical device management systems and audit techniques.

Once again, thank you to everyone for your participation, and we look forward to a massive turnout at our upcoming events. Let’s remember this fabulous quote from James Baker: “Proper preparation prevents poor performance“ **.
