Cesar Camargo 2023By Cesar Camargo, Responsable VoC, (English text follows)

Cesar Camargo

At the beginning of this year, I was talking with one director at the large retail store where I work when, suddenly, he took the opportunity to inform an employee passing by that a customer had left an excellent comment about her in the VoC survey for the outstanding service she had provided. The employee’s face lit up, and a smile became evident. I was left with a pleasant feeling, realizing how wonderful it is to work with quality – it’s a win-win relationship. The customer left satisfied with the excellent service received, and the employee, I imagine, felt professionally fulfilled.

Speaking of satisfaction surveys, during our last webinar of 2025, participants rated their overall satisfaction at 98%. Among the suggested topics for future sessions, the idea arose to discuss the evolution of ISO standards and the role of artificial intelligence in quality.

Clearly, capturing the voice of the customer is the starting point for identifying what is being done well and what could be improved.

We count on all of you that are passionate about quality, to keep the quality wheel rolling in our ASQ Montreal Chapter through your comments, feedback, and suggestions.

See you next time!

Cesar Camargo

  • Pouvoir définir la qualité;
  • Connaître l’existence des normes de qualité ISO;
  • Identifier les qualités requises d’un gestionnaire en qualité performant;
  • S’informer sur les nouveautés en qualité : L‘Inspection par Réalité Augmentée et L’IA vs la Qualité;

TWO ASQ MTL/HEC MEETINGS DONE (Nov 20th and Dec 2nd): REMARKABLE EVENTS ON QUALITY

A team from ASQ Montreal visited HEC Montreal twice to talk about quality with students enrolled in the Certificate in Operational Excellence Management and Bachelor of Operations and Logistics Management programs. Ray DYER, Sam WEISSFELNER, Eric HOSKING, and Kunal DAS accompanied presenter Pierre MARQUIS. The team was warmly welcomed by lecturer Michel LEFEBVRE and his 33 students.

The objectives of the PowerPoint presentation were:

  • To be able to define quality;
  • To learn about ISO quality standards;
  • To identify the qualities required of an effective quality manager;
  • Learn about new developments in quality: Augmented Reality Inspection and AI vs. Quality;
  • Recognize the role of ASQ and the benefits of student membership.

Ray, Sam, Eric, Kunal, and Pierre presented their bios and talked about their experiences with quality and non-quality, sparking considerable interest. They mentioned the main ISO standards used in industry, including 9001, 14001, 13485, 27001, 45001, AS9100, and the SMIA series of standards: ISO/IEC 42001, 42005, and 42006.

Ray spoke about the 19 certifications offered by ASQ, the existence of the ASQ Montreal chapter since 1950, and a mentoring project currently in development for the benefit of future quality professionals.

After a brief question period (e.g., what to do in the event of a recall), Professor Michel Lefebvre congratulated the presenters and reiterated his interest in repeating the experience in 2026, for a third year.

By Raymond E. Dyer, B.Sc., MBA

ASQ Montreal Section 75th Anniversary

Organized by the ASQ Montreal Section Leadership team.

On October 22, 2025, the ASQ Montreal Section celebrated its 75th anniversary. The whole section leadership team was there (Sam Weisfelner joined us virtually for a moment given he was travelling) and so were several section members (around 20), one that drove in from the Toronto area to join us. We also had the pleasure of welcoming our ASQ Canada Regional Director, Natella Isazada, who flew in from Vancouver, British Columbia to join us and deliver to the section a proclamation from ASQ 2025 Chair, Daniella (Dani) Picciotti, and also a section recognition.

After some initial networking, the evening was launched with a cleverly constructed “ASQ Montreal Section history treasure hunt” with Chantale Simard. The responses were submitted electronically via a cell phone and involved digging around all the historical artifacts that had been put on display. This was  followed by good food, various presentations, several awards, and some closing photographs to celebrate our impressive cake.

For years I’ve said that one of the most important values of being an ASQ section member is the networking opportunities and the friendships that develop, and that one of the greatest benefits of being a section leadership team member is the various skills we develop, e.g. leadership, collaboration, creativity, public speaking, writing, training/teaching, learning: bottom line . . . confidence.

The evening delivered on the networking and friendships. There were members there that I’ve known since I started ASQ and we caught up on each other’s news. The evening was the result of not only the efforts invested by all eight of our section leadership team, but also several members who pitched in to help out.

You’ll see more details and photos of the event with JP Amiel’s “75 Years of History – Célébration | Celebration” article and other newsletter articles as well. This was a proud moment for our section, one that deserved to be celebrated with passion. Thanks to all who attended.

  • Pouvoir définir la qualité;
  • Connaître l’existence des normes de qualité ISO;
  • Comprendre l’implication du technicien dans la fonction qualité de la firme (tâches, défis, projets);
  • Identifier les qualités requises d’un technicien en qualité performant;
  • Décrire une journée typique du technicien en qualité;
  • Constater les opportunités d’avancement;
  • Expliquer le déroulement d’un audit qualité;
  • Connaître l’implication de l’IA en qualité;
  • Connaître l’inspection par la Réalité Augmentée;
  • Comprendre l’importance de la sélection/contrôle des fournisseurs;

Presenter: Pierre MARQUIS, Student Outreach Chair.

On Thursday, October 30, 2025, Pierre MARQUIS was welcomed by Professor Nicolas VERRON to demystify the role and skills of future quality technicians in business for his third-year students.

The objectives of the presentation were:

  • To be able to define quality;
  • To learn about the existence of ISO quality standards;
  • To understand the technician’s involvement in the company’s quality function (tasks, challenges, projects);
  • To identify the qualities required of a successful quality technician;
  • To describe a typical day in the life of a quality technician;
  • To identify opportunities for advancement;
  • Explain how a quality audit is conducted;
  • Understand the role of AI in quality;
  • Understand inspection using augmented reality;
  • Understand the importance of supplier selection/control;
  • Recognize the role of ASQ.

The topics were presented interactively, with each of the fourteen students viewing the presentation on their screens, knowing that it would be available for future reference, such as in 2024. This year, supplier selection and control were added at the professor’s request, which was addressed by mentioning the AS9100 requirements on the subject.

The overview of ASQ, which offers 19 quality certifications, was shared with interest, along with information about the ASQ Montreal chapter, which has been in existence since 1950, the nine annual webinars (or seminars), and networking opportunities for students.

Finally, a student asked the presenter what approach to take to solve a problem. The answer: “Define the problem, form a multidisciplinary team including the people involved, and make sure you have undergone problem-solving training beforehand.”
