ASQ Montreal – 75 Years . . . Young

Time sure flies – Similar conditions in the development of the “science” of quality which led to the formation of the American Society for Quality Control (ASQC) in 1946 in the US, also prevailed in Canada. Young local Quality Control Societies had also been established. More specifically in Montreal, Ben LLOYD of Canadian Industries Ltd (CIL), Bruce LEADBETTER of the Bell Telephone Co. of Canada (BELL), Roger LESSARD of the École Polytechnique, John PRINGLE of the Bell Telephone Co. of Canada (BELL), N.L. MORGAN of Northern Electric and others, the leaders of a group decided to join the ASQC in 1949.
It was the following year, on April 12 th 1950, at a meeting held in the Windsor Station offices of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPKC) that the Montreal Society for Quality Control was created. It was affiliated with the American Society for Quality Control (ASQ, since 1997) and on 12th August, 1950 was accepted as the 43rd Section of the society. And so it was that the Montreal Section of ASQC was born.
